The Bluey Season Three Finale Drops In April, And It’s Not Coming Alone

It’s true – Bluey fans have been waiting practically forever for season three to end. We’ve all enjoyed the ride and the great episodes along the way, but how often does a so-called season of television end three years after its season premiere airs? I can’t think of any either, but the good news is our need to be patient is rapidly coming to a close. Back in December, we found out when the last batch of episodes would land in the U.S. and discovered the news of a special finale. Today, we just found out the day for when that long-awaited episode will make it to air. Making it even more spectacular is a surprise announcement of… well, keep reading to find out!

When is the Bluey season three finale going to air?

In a social media post on the official Australian Broadcasting Corporation page, the company announced the release date for the highly-anticipated season-three finale of Bluey. According to this information, two dates were posted – April 7 and April 14, with a time of 8 AM. ABC wrote, “Set your alarms, tell your friends. This is the BIGGEST Bluey news ever! 28-minute Bluey episode global premiere incoming.”

Keep in mind, this info is specifically for those in Australia with the ABC channel or ABC iview, and not for international audiences who will watch it through Disney+ or other methods.

Additional details were revealed through Screenhub, making things a little bit less confusing. The finale itself will air on April 14, but April 7 will be the debut of another previously unaired episode titled “Ghost Basket.” There has been a lot of rumor and innuendo about what this episode will be about, and whether or not it was even real. In a few weeks, we will finally have some answers!

We also have a few other details through this post, regarding some familiar faces returning to the series as well as some new ones:

The Sign is jammed-packed with voice talent: Patrick Brammall returns as the voice of Uncle Rad, alongside Megan Washington as Calypso, Claudia O’Doherty as Frisky, Myf Warhurst as Trixie, and Rose Byrne as Brandy.

Making their Bluey voice debut, this special episode introduces Rove McManus, Deborah Mailman, Brendan Williams and Joel Edgerton.

For you American fans, the official Bluey website has confirmed this pair of episodes will premiere on the same day as they air in Australia. The one major factor for this simulcast would be the timing of when it’s shown, as they may need to make adjustments for international time zones. For example, 8 AM on April 7 would be 4 PM on April 6 in the United States. Regardless, a date is more than we had before, and we are now a little over a month away from this epic episode!

We should also note that we only knew about the length of “The Sign” and how that was intended to be simulcast to whatever extent they can. If “Ghost Basket” airs under similar terms remains to be seen.

What’s The Bluey Season Three Finale About?

We still don’t know much about this episode other than the length being four times a typical episode, and the title of it – “The Sign.”

Thanks to the official Bluey website, we’ve also received a few screenshots from the episode, but they don’t really tell anything worthy of writing a post about. While some leaks exist out there that may or may not be legit, it’s safe to say this episode will be a change in the status quo. Why else would it be 28 minutes long instead of the normal size? For it to be that much bigger means a lot is going to happen.

Is This Episode the Bluey Series Finale?

As far as we know, this season finale will not be the end of Bluey. According to the showrunners, the team is taking a voluntary break after the third season wraps, and will come back refreshed and recharged soon after to work on the fourth season. It’s understandable, especially seeing how in-demand the show became during the pandemic.

As we alluded to at the start of this post, the season was broken up into three chunks spread out across several years. This is very abnormal for a single season of any show, and the arduous process of making an animated series doesn’t make production any easier. There are many reasons why this season was released the way it was, but much of that info isn’t currently available to the public yet. What we do know is that the process took a toll on the Bluey team, and a little respite is more than deserved.

Of course, nothing is set in stone and anything could happen regarding the status of this finale, but let’s all keep our paws crossed that this really is just a hiatus and not a final conclusion to this beloved animated series.

Stay tuned for more updates regarding this finale on Blueynews.com!
