If it felt like the third season of Bluey has been going on forever, that’s because it has. For a number of legitimate reasons, Bluey’s third season has taken nearly two years to wrap up. It began in September 2021 in its home country of Australia, with a roughly nine-month delay before arriving in the U.S. and other locations. Making it more frustrating for many, the series was released in batches of episodes, with each cluster being released another nine months after the last group.
It’s been a long road to get to this point, but we now know there is a light at the end of the season three tunnel. Earlier this week, the BBC announced the season three finale of Bluey is on the way, and it’s coming sooner than we think. Not only that, it’s going to be extra-special because for the first time ever, this episode will be very different from all of the others.
The Longest Bluey Episode Ever
According to an official statement from the BBC, the long-awaited season finale of Bluey will premiere globally next year in 2024 on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and Disney+. The name of the episode is “The Sign,” which features an extended run time of 28 minutes. That’s four times the length of a typical Bluey episode, or the equivalent of four Chunky Chimp shorts if you live in the Bluey universe.
This special episode will be written by Bluey creator and writer Joe Brumm, and directed by Richard Jeffery.
Ludo Studio, producers of the hugely popular animated TV series, said in the statement: “We’re so excited to share that a 28-minute special episode is coming in 2024. There’ll be lots of laughs, exciting guest voices, and definitely a few tears. We’re so incredibly proud of the awesome team behind the series and we can’t wait for Australia and the world to watch this very special Bluey episode with their family and friends.”
No precise date has been revealed about when this episode will air in Australia or other locations, other than a vague “2024.” According to producer Daley Pearson in a post on his Instagram account, it will be a “day and date global release,” meaning everyone can see it simultaneously without delay around the world once it’s released.

What is “The Sign” About?
Bluey fans across the internet are debating about what this episode will be about. The only information we have so far is the handful of new clips from the trailer above, and the title, which is “The Sign.” There are plenty of rumors and fan theories which we will take in another article, but for the time being, know that everything about this episode is being kept top secret.
The official Bluey website posted five screenshots from the episode as well, which many have been analyzing tirelessly since it was unveiled.
The images include the one above with Chilli and Bluey holding hands at a rest stop, Bluey in the family car, Bingo trotting along in her backpack and another of her playing on the backyard swing, and Bluey at kindgergarten with his class. While adorable, there really isn’t a ton of info we can glean from this. These images are so broad they could mean anything, and even other moments in the trailer are so open-ended and mysterious that it’s nearly impossible to decipher any hint of what this 28-minute special will be about.
The song used in the trailer is their version of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” which was previously heard in the first-season episode titled “Bike.” Is this a throwback to an important event, or just reusing some awesome Joff Bush music – because there’s nothing wrong with that. The song seems intended to add an air of celebration around this finale, perhaps acknowledging the long delays around this season and how everyone can be relieved now that it’s about to conclude.
Is The Bluey Season Three Finale Actually The End of the Show?
The other big question on everybody’s mind is whether or not this episode will be more than the end of season three, and might really turn into the series finale. As of now, we know that’s not the case, as the show creators have said they planned on taking a hiatus after production wrapped on season three. The demanding schedule for the past two seasons took a toll on the showrunners, and they need some time and space to recharge their batteries before embarking on the fourth season.
The United States is still waiting on the final batch of episodes from this season, while Australia has finished its run aside from this finale. This last group includes the one Australia voted as their favorite Bluey episode of all time in the recent Bluey Fest on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation).
