We all know that Bluey is blue. Isn’t it self-explanatory? It’s in the name, after all, since she and her entire family are Blue Heelers. But, “blue” is a pretty vague description if someone asked you what color this beloved Australian cartoon dog is. It’s correct, but to a degree. There are many shades of blue, and this pup is a very specific one. So, exactly what color of blue is Bluey?
Thanks to a very cool website, we know the exact shades of not only Bluey, but the rest of her family as well. For the folks out there making Bluey fanart, this is precisely the info you need to make your drawings more accurate and closer to the real thing, and it’s also how I figured out what hue to make this website. Grab your eyedropper tool and let’s get into the nitty gritty of color theory!
What color of blue is Bluey?
According to Color-Hex, we have the hex codes for this animated series. What’s a color hex Code? There are two formats to show color in things, and that’s CMYK and RGB. CMYK (which stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key) is a four-color process with those three colors used to print things, whether that’s on paper or clothing or anything. The “Key” stands for black, which can be made by combining any of the other colors. The RGB stands for Red, Green, Blue, and is used for coloring things on the web. There’s plenty more info out there if you want to learn more about these two processes, but let’s get back to Bluey!
Bluey herself is comprised of five colors, excluding the white of her eyes. The hex codes for them are seen in the image below:
Thanks to the added help of iColorPalette, we also know the names of these hues. I’m not sure who had the lucky job of naming every single shade of color out there, but it’s clear to me they had hours of fun doing it:
#edcc6f is close to Funky Yellow
#d2ebff is Veiling Waterfalls
#88cafc is Chromis Damsel Blue
#404066 is Storm is Coming
#2b2c41 is Black Violet
One important thing to note is this information is not coming from Ludo Studio, the people behind Bluey. This palette was created on the Color Hex website by a user named JubileeJigsaw, who also made palettes for Bingo, Chilli, and Bandit. In other words, consider this unofficially the colors of these characters, but as far as I can tell – these seem spot on!
If you’re an artist and want to test this for yourself by comparing the colors you’ve been using on your digital art as opposed to these, try it out and let us know whether or not they match. There’s always room for artistic liberty, so use this information however you please.
Bluey is available to stream in the US on Disney+.
